Here's what Twin Cities critics are saying about Sniff The Mitten:
In the St. Paul Pioneer Press:
The George Maurer Jazz Group marks the release of a brilliantly titled new Christmas CD, "Sniff the Mitten" (brilliant to fans of "This Is Spinal Tap," anyway), with its annual holiday show Sunday at the Dakota Jazz Club. "Sniff the Mitten" was recorded live at that very venue last year and features 70 minutes of big-band drollery from "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" to "Dig That Crazy Santa Claus."

From Dominic Papatola, St Paul Pioneer Press Theater critic, (heard on Minnesota Public Radio) to Cathy Wurzer, host of The Morning Edition on MPR on his top "off the beaten path" musical picks for the holiday season:
Dominic: "George Maurer...he's this irreverent musician...his jazz group has a [new] holiday cd. Ask me what it's called. I dare you."
Cathy: "Go ahead."
Dominic: "It's called Sniff The Mitten."
Cathy: (pause) "...LOVELY! FABULOUS!"

New CD:
Just in time for Christmas, the George Maurer Jazz Group releases its new holiday CD, “Sniff the Mitten", on Dec. 1. (See why they call themselves “slightly irreverent”?) “Sniff the Mitten” was recorded live at Minneapolis’s Dakota Jazz Club in December 2006 and features the group’s innovative takes on classic Christmas songs.

Check back soon for samples of George’s two new song cycles: “Dreams Among Sorrows and Songs,” based on the poems of Rainer Maria Rilke; and a collaboration with lyricist Jim Payne, written for vocalist Ann Michels, called “Stations of the Heart.”
Also coming up is a new CD from the George Maurer Big Band called “Bebop for Ballet,” based on the music he composed for the Saint Paul City Ballet’s production “Enticed.”
George is currently developing an original score for the independent film “The Nihilist” to be released this spring.
